Constructing new economic growth pole

The fifth commercial meeting of the provincial capitals located in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River was held in Wuhan on April 10.

Government officials and representatives from the four provincial capitals — Wuhan, Changsha, Hefei, and Nanchang — signed an action plan of cooperation from 2017 to 2020. The cities will work closely together towards their mutual goal to turn the city cluster of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River into a new economic growth pole in China.

In February 2013, the first such meeting was held in Wuhan and witnessed the beginning of the cooperation among the four capital cities. Over the past four years, the four cities have shared information on human resources, achieved integration of health services, and enhanced scientific, cultural, and sports cooperation. The representatives held discussions and explored development directions under China's new normal economy, with the aim of developing the joint region into an area of international influence.

According to the action plan for the next four years, the focus will be on making enormous efforts to achieve connectivity of infrastructure, integration of markets, coordinated industrial development, ecological civilization, and shared public services
