World's first original book Guodian Chu Slips exhibited in Wuhan


    The Guodian Chu Slips, hailed as the first original book in the world, were exhibited in Hubei Provincial Library on August 29, 2016.

  Unearthed in 1993 in Tomb no. 1 of the Guodian tombs in Jingmen, Hubei Province, the Guodian Chu Slips dated to the latter half of the Warring States period. There are in total about 804 bamboo slips in this cache, including 702 strips and 27 broken strips. The bamboo slip texts consist of three major categories, which include the earliest manuscripts of the received text of the Tao Te Ching, one chapter from the Classic of Rites, content from the Classic of History and other writings.

  The content of the exhibited slips is mainly about Taoism and Confucianism. They are displayed for the first time at such a large scale. As Class A heritage of China, the Guodian Chu Slips only receive visitors in one day.
