- Shijiahe Site selected into China's Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries in 2016
Shijiahe site, located in Tianmen, Hubei Province, was selected into the China's Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries in 2016, said the local media on April 13, 2017. It has been the fourth consecutive time for Hubei appearing on the list.
Shijiahe site is the largest neolithic complex found in the middle reach area of the Yangtze River. From 2015 to 2016, three new sites were excavated, namely, Yinxintai, Tanjialing and Sanfangwan.
The ancient city ruins of Tanjialing, dating back to 5300 years ago, is considered to be the largest prehistoric city in China, while the Yinxintai site is considered to be the largest prehistoric prehistoric ritual site in the middle reach area of Yangtze River. The jadewares whose manufacturing technologies represent the highest level in prehistoric China or even East Asia were unearthed from the Tanjialing site.
